It’s not often Roger Federer faces a player who has won more majors than he has.

Serving to Serena Williams at the Hopman Cup, a mixed team event held in Perth, Australia, the Swiss superstar came out swinging, acing the former top-ranked American in his first service game as the crowd roared.

After all, the pair have dominated tennis for almost two decades, winning a combined 43 Grand Slam singles titles. They earned a combined $104.2 million last year alone, according to FORBES calculations.

The clash between the two tennis superstars, who are both 37 years old, had been trailed the day before during every BBC hourly news bulletin in the UK, giving the exhibition the kind of exposure most events can only dream of.

The point is, when you get your best men and women together, the sport is always a winner . If sponsors, broadcasters and fans all love it, then why not create more stand-alone mixed events?
