Rafael Nadal is guaranteed to enter the French Open next month with at least one clay court title under his belt in 2021.
But it took everything he could muster to win the trophy.
The world No. 3 overcame a match point to knock off the red-hot Stefanos Tsitsipas, 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-5 on Sunday to win the Barcelona title for the 12th time in 16 appearances. He improved to 12-0 in Barcelona finals. At more than 3 hours, 30 minutes, it was the longest three-set match of the year. Nadal improved to 7-2 against Tsitsipas.
