Former Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych believes Roger Federer will leave a bigger legacy in tennis than Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic even though he won’t be the best player of all time in terms of the number of Grand Slams won.
The final curtain came down on Federer’s 24-year tennis career at the Laver Cup a fortnight ago as the 41-year-old confirmed ahead of the tournament that after struggling with a knee injury for the best part of three years, his body has made it clear that it had reached its limits.
The Swiss Maestro retired with 20 Grand Slam singles titles – which puts him third in the all-time list behind Nadal (22) and Djokovic (21) – while he also spent 310 weeks as No 1 in the ATP Rankings, including a record 237 consecutive weeks.
