One winning Canada’s first Davis Cup since its more than a century-old origin, the other qualifying for football’s World Cup for the first time in 36 years. What is noticeable and remarkable is how many new and first-generation Canadians were on the rosters of both teams. It is a clear affirmation of the richness that immigrants bring to our special country.

One is left to wonder how many future stars, both girls and boys in any endeavour, are among the 400,000-plus immigrants Canada plans to welcome every year.
